現墨画家 千道（せんどう）

水墨画教室 漂墨 主宰
円山四条派に連なる水墨画を学び、「調墨法」や「付立法」といった古典的な水墨画の技法を基軸としながらも、様々な技法を取り入れた墨の表現を行う《現墨画家》。
日本独自の宗教観である神仏混合や、禅の思想に基づき、仏教の基本的な教えである「中道」をテーマに制作を続ける。
水墨画の持つ「水と火（墨）の芸術」という両極性を中道を表現する手段として引用し、《対極の繋がりとその階調の可視化》を探求。鑑賞者が様々な事象に対して多元的な視点を得ることを目的としている。
幼少期に報道カメラマンであった父から海外の撮影現場での話を聞く機会が多く、政治的な視点（ナショナリズム）と旅への興味が芽生える。その影響でバックパッカーとして海外を放浪し、水墨画を描きながら世界を巡った経験が、現在の作品制作に大きな影響を与えている。
※2024年11月より、活動名義を本名の「河合愼平」から、雅号「千道」へ変更している。
Sendo — Contemporary Sumi-e Artist
Sendo is the head of the Sumi-e school "Hyouboku" (漂墨), meaning "Drifting Ink".
Trained in the Maruyama-Shijo style of ink painting, he integrates traditional techniques such as "Choboku-hou" and "Tsuketate-hou" with contemporary methods to redefine the boundaries of ink art.
Rooted in Japan's syncretic religious tradition that blends Shinto and Buddhism, along with Zen philosophy, his work explores the concept of "Chudo" (The Middle Way*), a fundamental tenet of Buddhism.
*The Middle Way …This principle does not merely denote a balance between two extremes but rather transcends binary oppositions, seeking an alternative perspective beyond dichotomies.
Sendo interprets the inherent duality of ink painting—often described as "the art of water and fire (sumi)"—as a means of expressing this philosophy, visually exploring the interconnectedness of opposites.
By fusing diverse techniques instead of adhering strictly to classical Sumi-e methods, Sendo overlays different historical narratives and social values.
His aim is to offer viewers a pluralistic perspective on the complexities of contemporary society, prompting deeper engagement with its diverse issues.Influences and Artistic Journey.
During his childhood, Sendo was deeply influenced by his father, a photojournalist, who shared stories of his experiences covering global events. This exposure sparked an early fascination with political landscapes, including themes of nationalism, and instilled in him a passion for travel.
As a young adult, he embraced the life of a backpacker, journeying across the world with ink and brush in hand. This global perspective continues to shape his artistic vision, infusing his work with narratives that transcend cultural boundaries
